First Ever LAFD Over-the-Line Tournament
It Ain’t Beach Blanket Bingo

The Widows, Orphans and Disabled Firemen’s Fund is honored to be the benefiting charity of several wonderful fundraisers year after year, with many of these events being annual favorites of the participants. Having watched the growth of these events and the way they bring supporters of Widows & Orphans together, it was a privilege to witness what we hope to be the start of a new annual fundraiser, particularly one that gives firefighters the opportunity to help their own.
The first ever Over-the-Line Tournament was held on September 14th, 2011 at the beautiful Santa Monica beach. The day was overcast, but the clouds in the sky did little to dampen the enthusiasm in the air. And it may have been a good thing that the day was on the cool side. Many of the firefighters who competed worked up quite a sweat during the tournament play.
For those not familiar with Over-the-Line, organizer Bill Bringas explained it as “basically like a softball game on the sand. It’s a small court and it’s played by a minimum of three guys or a maximum of five guys.” Read more…
