Courageously They Died, By Inspiration They Live!

Each year, the Los Angeles Fire Department, with the help of the LAFD Historical Society, celebrates the lives and contributions of those firefighters who gave their lives while in service to the city. The 2011 event took place on Saturday, October 8 and was attended by members, friends and family of the LAFD, as well as civic and community leaders.
The Fallen Firefighters Memorial is situated just outside Old Fire Station 27. The dramatic plaza is home to a memorial wall, listing the names of every known department member who died while at an incident or as a result of a duty-related cause.
In front of this wall, a series of bronze statues, each one carefully representing an LA firefighter is on display. The concept for these statues was designed by Los Angeles Fire Captain Duane Golden.
The solemn but uplifting ceremony included a presentation by the LAFD Honor Guard, beautiful music, a flyover by the LAFD Air Ops Section, the ringing of the Ten Bells and the reading of the names of every firefighter listed on the memorial wall.
